Helping to build a generation of veterinary leaders

Global WSAVA One Care Leadership Program underway

The first cohort of WSAVA leaders has just started participating in an online leadership training program to help enhance their mindset when it comes to supporting collaborative leadership. The program has been created at the instigation of WSAVA President Dr Siraya Chunekamrai as part of the WSAVA One Care initiative. 36 Member Representatives, WSAVA Committee members and members of the Executive Board attended the first session on January 6. The program will continue until mid-April.

Over the last few years, our Members’ Forum events have highlighted how challenging it can be to lead a local, regional or international association and the lack of resources to support individuals in these roles.

We have committed to our One Care Leadership Program to help create sustainable leadership, both for the WSAVA and for our member associations. It is an investment in our most important asset – our people – and will align our global community in a way no other global association has yet achieved. We hope it will help to create and empower our leaders to overcome the difficulties they face and help us in shaping the future of our global community and our fantastic profession. [/blockquote]

Dr Guillermina Manigot, Secretary of the WSAVA Therapeutics Guidelines Group, says: “I had been considering taking a course of this sort so when the opportunity to attend the WSAVA program was offered, I jumped at it. I am enjoying the chance to engage openly with colleagues from around the world as we share our stories and experiences.

“I have no doubt that the program will help me to learn from other leaders and to develop new skills, which will benefit both me and the organizations I work for. It will do this by empowering me to improve the productivity of the teams I work with, build better relationships and become a more successful leader.”
