November 24, 2020Coming soon - Global Guidelines and other resources to support practice in veterinary oncology
In a recent survey of WSAVA members, the need for support with the diagnosis and treatment of oncology patients was a frequent request so we are delighted to announce the launch of our Oncology Working Group. It will work to overcome significant regional variations in veterinary oncology treatment and raise awareness of the different types of tumors affecting companion animals.
The Oncology Work Group will start work immediately on easy-to-use, accessible Guidelines. While they are in development, it will create practical, user-friendly tools for use by veterinarians to enhance standards of treatment and to educate owners about cancer in pets. These will include white papers, videos and content for social media.
The Oncology Working Group is currently looking for Specialists with an interest in a specific aspect of oncology, such as surgery, medical oncology or radiation therapy to join and support its work.

Many cancers in companion animals also occur in humans. This offers us the opportunity to improve the lives of both animal and human patients by raising standards of treatment for veterinary oncology patients. Our Oncology Working Group will collaborate with other WSAVA Committees in the development of useful resources and improving communication about the disease within our global veterinary community and beyond. We are looking forward to getting started!
The member term for the Oncology Working Group will be three years with the option to serve a further three years. The WSAVA’s Leadership and Nomination Committee will consider all applications.
