Feline Grimace Scale app launched!

Université de Montréal initiative will support pain assessment in cats at home

The Feline Grimace Scale (FGS), launched by the Steagall Laboratory at the Université de Montréal, to enable rapid real-time acute pain assessment in cats by their carers and veterinary professionals, is now available via a smartphone app. The app was developed at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine by Dr Paulo Steagall, Professor of Veterinary Anesthesia and Pain Management. Dr Steagall is a member of the WSAVA Global Pain Council and Co-Chair of the WSAVA Therapeutics Guidelines Group. He is also a member of the Faculty at the City University of Hong Kong.

The FGS app enables real-time pain scoring and offers further clinical recommendations. Cat carers are also able to take a picture of their cat’s face and share it with their veterinarian through the app.
