Jing Wang holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Veterinary Medicine from China Agricultural University and has dedicated her career to improving animal welfare through excellence in anesthesia and pain management.
Her transformative journey began at Animals Asia, where she worked alongside colleagues dedicated to enhancing animal welfare standards. This experience opened her eyes to the critical gaps in pain management knowledge within the veterinary profession and sparked her passion for promoting compassionate, evidence-based care.
Currently, Jing plays an active role in veterinary education in China, regularly speaking at national conferences and leading training sessions on veterinary ethics, anesthesia, and pain management. She serves as Vice President of the Anesthesia Branch of the Beijing Small Animal Veterinary Association (BJSAVA) and is a committee member of the Chinese Veterinary Medical Association’s Anesthesia Specialization Committee.
Reflecting on receiving the scholarship, Jing shared:
“I am incredibly grateful to WSAVA for establishing this scholarship. I believe it is a dream opportunity for any veterinary professional passionate about anesthesia and pain management. My goal is to minimize pain and anxiety in every animal under our care while prioritizing their safety and comfort. This scholarship represents a vital step in expanding my knowledge and contributing to advancements in global veterinary pain management.”
Dr Jo Murrell, Co-Chair of the WSAVA Pain Committee, also congratulated Jing on this achievement:
“We are thrilled to support veterinary professionals like Jing, whose passion and commitment to improving animal welfare through better pain management are truly inspiring. Through this scholarship, we aim to empower local leaders to drive education and best practices in their regions, creating a global ripple effect of positive change.”
We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the three training centers participating in this year’s program:
● Bristol Veterinary Specialists, UK — Dr. Jo Murrell will provide training in clinical management and assessment of acute and chronic pain at this large multi-disciplinary referral hospital located on the outskirts of Bristol.
● Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences, City University of Hong Kong — Professor Paulo Steagall will lead didactic training in pain research methods and clinical pain management at this renowned university based in the heart of Hong Kong.
● Animals Asia’s Veterinary Welfare Training Program — Dr. Mandala Hunter-Ishikawa will guide training on how to promote animal welfare to a broad audience across Asia, leveraging Animals Asia’s extensive education and outreach experience.
We are grateful for their invaluable contributions in supporting the next generation of veterinary educators and advocates for compassionate pain management.
Being selected for the Teach the Teachers Scholarship is a significant milestone in Jing’s career. She looks forward to leveraging this opportunity to continue inspiring her peers, guiding colleagues, and contributing to the advancement of veterinary education and best practices in China and beyond.
