Our Membership and Nomination Committee Is Seeking New Members

We are seeking two new committee members—one from Latin America and one from Asia—to strengthen regional representation and support WSAVA’s community. The member will start their tenure on January 1, 2026, and be expected to attend a regional WSAVA event in March 2026 in the Philippines, if possible.

Purpose and Role Summary

The Membership and Nomination Committee (MNC) is a standing committee of WSAVA.  The committee supports WSAVA’s mission by mapping capability needs across committees, leading transparent and inclusive nominations, cultivating future leaders, and recognizing excellence through WSAVA awards.

As an MNC member, you will:

Review applications from associations seeking WSAVA membership and provide clear recommendations.

Support fair, inclusive nominations and selections for committee members and Chairs by:

  • Reviewing applications and nomination materials against role criteria.
  • Assessing qualifications and fit, and documenting findings.
  • Making clear, evidence-based recommendations for selection.

Contribute to the selection processes for WSAVA awards (Global Meritorious Service Award and Hills Next Generation Award). Offer advisory input to the Executive Board when requested

The MNC includes a Chair, an Executive Board Liaison, and members drawn from WSAVA member associations.

Typical tenure is three years, renewable once (maximum six years).

Who Should Apply

Veterinarians in Latin America and Asia, aligned with WSAVA’s mission, and who hold membership in a WSAVA member association (mandatory).

  • You have experience in nominations/governance and familiarity with international organizations.
  • You bring sound judgment, neutrality, confidentiality, and you participate reliably via electronic workflows.
  • You care deeply about fair, inclusive, and transparent nominations and selections, and want to contribute to leadership development across WSAVA.
  • You can commit to consistent engagement (on average ~3 hours per month) and join one in-person meeting annually (regional event or World Congress), with ad hoc virtual meetings as needed.
  • You bring practical nominations/governance experience that applies directly to WSAVA reviews for association membership, committee chairs and members, and Chairs—ensuring the process is fair, equitable, inclusive, and transparent.
  • You operate with a governance mindset—neutrality, confidentiality, sound judgment, and reliable electronic participation.
  • You are proficient with verbal and written English communication (WSAVA’s official language).
  • You are proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Routine reviews are conducted via Microsoft Teams; general familiarity or willingness to learn is required. WhatsApp is used for routine communication.

Remuneration for this role

All WSAVA committee members including the chairperson are volunteers. However, reasonable expenses incurred while carrying out WSAVA duties will be reimbursed, in accordance with the WSAVA Travel and Expenses Policy.

Applicant must provide the full documentation required below, in English, via this dedicated application link:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Letter of Intent
  • Letter of Good Standing from WSAVA Member Association*

*All nominees for membership of any WSAVA committee/group are required to provide a letter of Good Standing from the WSAVA member organization of which they are a member. This requirement does not apply to nominees who are not members of a WSAVA organization (e.g. non-veterinarians) whose expertise may be necessary for specialist committees/groups. A person of Good Standing is defined as someone who has complied with all explicit obligations of the association and who is not subject to any form of sanction, suspension or disciplinary censure. This letter is not a recommendation from the association that the nominee is the best person for the position. WSAVA committee positions are not chosen by member organizations – the Committee Chair ultimately decides on the best candidate for the position and the choice is ratified by the Executive Board. This letter indicates only that the WSAVA member association has no objection to the nomination. Please click here to view an example of this letter.
