The WSAVA Executive Board announces a vacancy following the resignation of Ordinary Board Member Professor Frederic Gaschen. We thank Frederic for his service and contributions to WSAVA and wish him the very best.
To ensure continued representation for the Australasia, Europe, and North America region, the Executive Board has decided to fill this vacancy ahead of the next scheduled election cycle in 2026. In line with WSAVA’s commitment to member engagement, we are launching an open call for nominations to identify a suitable candidate from the region.
All eligible candidates will be presented to the WSAVA membership so they can indicate their preferred candidate through an online vote. In line with the WSAVA’s bylaws, the Executive Board will ratify and appoint the candidate receiving the most member votes. The candidate will be appointed until the General Assembly in Warsaw 2026, ensuring alignment with existing director term cycles.
How to Apply
Full details on the nomination process and eligibility criteria will be published when the call for nominations officially opens, which we expect in late April. A member vote is likely to take place in early July.
Please note that the successful candidate will be expected to attend their first online Executive Board meeting in August and attend in person the WSAVA Congress in Rio de Janeiro this September, including WSAVA strategy workshops the week before the congress. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact our Executive Director, Richard Casey, at richard.casey@wsava.org.
We encourage all eligible members to consider applying and playing a key role in shaping WSAVA’s future. Stay tuned for further updates!
Statement from Professor Frederic Gaschen
“Stepping down from my role on the WSAVA Executive Board has been an incredibly difficult decision, as I deeply value WSAVA and everything it stands for. However, due to unforeseeable personal circumstances beyond my control, I must take this step.
While I am saddened to leave this wonderful community, I do so with complete confidence in WSAVA’s leadership and staff. With such a dedicated and talented team at the helm, I have no doubt that the Association will continue to navigate challenges successfully and drive positive change for the global veterinary profession.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to my colleagues and the wider WSAVA community for their support, and I look forward to seeing WSAVA’s continued success in the years ahead.” — Professor Frederic Gaschen
