The Animal Welfare Committee works to make animal welfare an everyday consideration for our members and to ensure that the WSAVA is a proactive and respected partner within international welfare circles by combining advocacy with mutual respect and consensus building.
Objectives
Motivate veterinary teams to continuously improve companion animal welfare by raising awareness of its importance, promoting good practice guidelines and building capacity.
Create educational initiatives, including global guidelines, to promote improvements in companion animal welfare from a global perspective.
Address welfare issues through collaborations with other WSAVA committees or external partners and through educating veterinary teams.
History
The AWC was formed in 2009, thanks to Australian veterinarian Dr Roger Clarke and Dr Ray Butcher from the UK. Both dedicated their careers to advancing animal welfare and had the foresight to ensure that it became one of the WSAVA’s four key ‘pillars’.
