Ciudad-Amiga_WAP

We are delighted to be supporting World Animal Protection in the second year of the Animal Friendly Cities Award. The Award, also supported by the OIE, Pan-American Health Organization, the Technical Institute for Animal Control and Education, the Companion Animal Management Coalition and the Federal Council of Vet Medicine in Brazil, aims to highlight best practice in the humane management of dogs and cats in Latin America. WSAVA Executive Board Member Dr Ellen van Nierop sits on the judging panel.

To enter, local governments from across the continent will be asked to submit their experiences and implemented practices in rabies elimination and dog population management in one of nine categories.

The winning strategies for each category will be showcased in an e-book that will be shared with other local governments in Latin America and the world. Prizes to the value of $4,000 are available for the winners.

Bogota,-Colombia---AW-cities-winner

Last year’s winer was the city of Bogotá, Colombia.

Dr Melania Gamboa, Animals in Communities Advisor at World Animal Protection, says:

[blockquote author=”” link=”” target=”_blank”]The Animal Friendly Cities Award is an opportunity to identify and celebrate those cities that are doing great work with dog and cat welfare and public health. We hope that this year even more local governments will participate and show us effective, innovative, and humane initiatives that we can share with the region and the world.[/blockquote]
