Preparing for and delivering care to companion animals caught up in natural disasters, such as wildfires and floods, and in conflict situations, is the topic under discussion at this year’s WSAVA Outreach Program, which takes place on 26 September in Lisbon, just ahead of WSAVA 2023.

Organized by the Local Host Committee of APMVEAC,  and featuring global experts including Dr Ivan Zakharenkov of the Galaxy Vets Foundation and Dr Danny Holmes from FECAVA, the session aims to use case based scenarios and practical field experiences to support veterinary associations and committees by highlighting best practice and resources already available in order to help them create guidelines and toolkits for their own members.

In addition to discussing the type of situations most likely to require disaster management and support in the years ahead, speakers will also explore team selection and planning and the type of training required to ensure maximum effectiveness, including collaboration with other emergency services, such as fire-fighters and NGO organizations.

The session is free to WSAVA delegates and will also be livestreamed.
