Dr Laurel Kaddatz from the USA is the recipient of the WSAVA 2023 Award for Global Meritorious Service in recognition of his service to his local community and to the veterinary profession at a regional, national, and global level.  Dr Kaddatz was the AVMA’s first member representative to the WSAVA and later served as Chair of our Financial Advisory Committee. Throughout his career, he has promoted the work of veterinarians by publishing articles, making presentations to community groups and organizing initiatives such as shadowing programs for high school students.

We’re also delighted to announce that Dr Brendon Laing, a Canadian veterinarian and co-owner of award-winning clinics in Ontario, is to receive the 2023 WSAVA Future Leader Award in recognition of his contribution to the veterinary community in Canada, in particular his work to highlight issues around mental health in the profession and to promote technological innovation.  The WSAVA Future Leader Award is generously supported by long-term WSAVA Partner, Hill’s Pet Nutrition.

Commenting on Dr Laurel Kaddatz’ achievement, WSAVA President Dr Ellen van Nierop says: “Community-building is at the heart of everything the WSAVA does and, in bestowing this prestigious Award on Dr Kaddatz, we are recognizing an individual who has personally exemplified community-building throughout his career.  The contribution he has made, not only to our global veterinary community, but to communities nationally and regionally in the USA, both within the veterinary profession and outside it is outstanding.”

Commenting on Dr Brendon Laing’s achievement, Dr Mike Topper, Chair of the WSAVA Membership and Nomination Committee, says: “Dr Laing stood out among the already outstanding applicants because of his engaged leadership at the provincial and national levels of organized veterinary medicine; his continuous efforts to improved wellness and wellbeing in his small animal hospitals, and his on-going promotion of telemedicine to improve the accessibility of veterinary care.”
