What are the GNC’s goals?
- To enhance awareness among the veterinary healthcare team and the public as to nutrition’s vital role in optimum pet health
- To advocate for nutrition as a key component in all veterinary and veterinary nurse/technician curricula
- To promote the importance of performing a nutritional assessment on every animal at every visit, and to make specific nutritional recommendations for each patient as an integral component of patient care
- To advance the central role of the veterinary healthcare team as the expert source of information for optimal pet nutrition.

WSAVA Global Nutrition Toolkit
The WSAVA Global Nutrition Toolkit is a suite of tools to support you in making nutritional assessments and recommendations. It also includes educational materials for your clients. Look out for more additions and updates this year including:
- – A pet-food ingredient and analysis tool
- – Videos showing how to place naso-gastric or esophageal feeding tubes
- – A raw foods infographic
- – The launch of our new e-learning platform in collaboration with Third Term Learning
Many of the tools contained in the WSAVA Global Nutrition Toolkit are in daily use by veterinary clinics and institutions around the world. They are also cited regularly in the media and are available in a range of languages.

What else is the GNC up to in 2020?
- Don’t miss a full day of clinical nutrition lectures delivered by GNC members, plus three hours of nutrition talks for nurses/technicians during #WSAVA2020 in Warsaw in September
- Catch GNC members at other global veterinary congresses during the year, including the International Veterinary Student Association (IVSA) Congress in Greece in July at which Dr Cecilia Villaverde will discuss the nutritional management of acute and chronic enteropathies
- GNC Members are finalizing the results of a nutritional assessment awareness survey they have recently conducted. Stay tuned for feedback on this later in the year!
