WSAVA Launches World Pet Health Day: A Global Initiative to Champion Companion Animal Health

On 18 January 2027, WSAVA will celebrate the first World Pet Health Day, a new annual initiative bringing together veterinary professionals and associations worldwide to raise awareness of the importance of companion animal health.

World Pet Health Day aims to create a global platform for education, advocacy and collaboration, highlighting the essential role of veterinary professionals in protecting and improving the lives of companion animals.

Each year, World Pet Health Day will focus on a specific aspect of companion animal health, providing veterinary professionals with practical information and resources they can share with colleagues, clients and their communities.

2027 Theme: Healthy Pets Start with Prevention

The inaugural World Pet Health Day will focus on the importance of preventive care and the role it plays in helping pets live healthier lives.

From vaccination and parasite prevention to good nutrition, regular health assessments and early detection of disease, preventive care encompasses a wide range of actions that can make a meaningful difference to companion animal health.

Recognising that access to veterinary care and resources varies considerably around the world, the campaign will encourage veterinary professionals to promote preventive healthcare approaches adapted to their local circumstances and the needs of the communities they serve.

“Prevention is one of the most powerful tools we have to help pets live healthier lives” said Dr Jerzy Gawor, WSAVA President. “Through World Pet Health Day, we want to unite the global veterinary community around this message, empowering veterinary professionals to promote preventive care in ways that reflect the needs of their local communities. Together, we can make a meaningful difference to companion animal health worldwide.”

A Global Campaign, Driven by Local Action

At the heart of World Pet Health Day is WSAVA’s global network of Member Associations and veterinary professionals.

WSAVA will provide campaign materials and educational resources to support participation, enabling Member Associations to adapt the campaign to their local context while contributing to a shared global message.

Through this initiative, WSAVA aims to strengthen collaboration across the veterinary community, promote the value of veterinary care and empower professionals to engage pet owners in protecting their animals’ health.

Join us on 18 January 2027 as we celebrate the first World Pet Health Day and work together towards a healthier future for companion animals everywhere.

More information and campaign resources will be available soon.
