‘VetView’ will connect our global community covering issues and topics of relevance to us all

Vetview is hosted by Xavier Canavilhas, a final year veterinary student from Portugal. In addition to his studies, Xavier is creating a central database of veterinary medicines in Portugal and a digital prescription solution. He also runs a project within the Portuguese veterinary association Ordem dos médicos veterinário (OMV) called Cheque Veterinário, which enables vulnerable families to seek veterinary care for their pets and which provides support for stray animals. He’s a member of the Youth Team at OMV, which is working to improve participation from younger veterinarians and students in the association to create a brighter future for the profession in Portugal.

I’m really excited to host the WSAVA’s podcast because it contributes to the creation of a veterinary community worldwide based on our core values of sharing experience and communicating at a human level.

Xavier conducts the podcast interviews in English and, in the first edition, he is in conversation with Dr Paulo Steagall, Co-Chair of the WSAVA Therapeutics Guidelines Group, about the creation of the first Essential Medicines List for Cats and Dogs. The List aims to tackle difficulties that exist for companion animal veterinarians in many regions of the world in accessing vital veterinary medicines by supporting the availability of the drugs required for minimum standards of clinical practice.
