WSAV Foundation

The WSAV Foundation aims to improve global companion animal care by means of science and education.

Led by WSAVA Past President, Dr Gabriel Varga, it funds scientific and educational activities for the benefit of practicing veterinarians around the world. Its key project is the African Small and Companion Animal Network (AFSCAN), a ground-breaking initiative to support companion animal veterinarians in Africa and to advance the profession in a sustainable way. It achieves its goal by:

  • Supporting the creation of small animal veterinary associations (SAVAs) in sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Offering grant funding for specific veterinary projects and establishing links between African veterinary researchers and those in institutions in American or European countries.
  • Providing CE for veterinarians and other veterinary professionals in sub-Saharan Africa
  • Increasing support for rabies control projects in Africa in collaboration with UK-based charity Mission Rabies.

The WSAV Foundation holds an annual fundraiser, a 5 km ‘Fun(d)’ run’, which takes place during WSAVA World Congress. Funds raised support the AFSCAN project and the WSAVA Foundation’s work with Mission Rabies to fight rabies in Africa.
