WSAVA Interview – Dr Andrea Poblete
Dra Andrea Poblete

Could you briefly introduce yourself to our members?
I work as a veterinary dentist in the beautiful region of Valparaíso in Chile. I am also a professor of veterinary medicine

Why did you want to become a veterinarian?
I graduated as a human dental surgeon but always had the dream of being a veterinarian. After 10 years of working with people, I decided to fulfil my dream. It was the best decision of my life.

What areas of veterinary practice do you most enjoy?
Veterinary dentistry is my area of professional development. I have combined my two degrees and dedicate myself to giving oral health care to my patients and teaching what I have learned to my students.

You are a member of the WSAVA’s Translation Committee. Why did you want to get involved with it?
Veterinary dentistry is rarely taught at universities in Latin America. I started translating the WSAVA Dental Guidelines into Spanish and wanted to share them with my Spanish-speaking colleagues so that we could all offer a higher quality of oral health care to our patients. Then I was asked to help with other translations…It is an honor for me to contribute to all of the knowledge that the WSAVA delivers.

Why do you believe that the work of the WSAVA is important?
Important? It’s fundamental! The hard work of every member of the association, their love for the profession and teaching is shown in every word I translate, and this benefits not only WSAVA members, but the entire veterinary world, owners and most importantly, our dear patients.
