Coming soon to the WSAVA Academy – the new ‘WSAVA Essentials’ series

A suite of online CE to help our members acquire fundamental knowledge

The pandemic has changed many of the ways in which we support our members and, in this, the WSAVA Continuing Education Committee (CEC) has led the way, moving from offering entirely face-to-face CE to offering a range of online programs within the last year.

The CEC has focused specifically on creating unique content which is engaging and relevant and accessible to veterinarians around the world. The new ‘WSAVA Essentials’ series is an example. It consists of modular, thematic foundational courses on various systems and clinical topics and aims to ensure that attendees acquire the essential knowledge they need in their practice and to gain the most from future courses.

Multiple speakers, from around the world, present the modules at a regular time over several weeks. Some modules have been offered live to a specific region, and later posted to the WSAVA Academy. Others have been developed specifically for the WSAVA Academy. The courses are presented in English, with live translations or plans for follow-up subtitled versions in multiple languages. Courses developed during 2021 have included:

  • Essentials of clinical decision-making – first offered to veterinarians in south-east Asia
  • Essentials of canine and feline ophthalmology – first offered to veterinarians in Africa
  • Essentials of canine and feline dermatology – available soon exclusively on the WSAVA Academy

Dr Jane Armstrong
Chair of the WSAVA Continuing Education Committee
We’re delighted at the positive response to our online CE so far and are continuing to collect feedback while we work on new ‘Essentials’ topics for next year, including canine and feline gastroenterology. We also aim to develop additional programs on focused topics, including, we hope, in-person WSAVA CEC programs for some regions.

Registrants engaging with a full course may request a WSAVA certificate of completion. Plans are underway for future courses to offer a competency certificate based on quizzes at the end of each module.

Stay tuned for more information coming soon about accessing the ‘WSAVA Essentials’ courses on the WSAVA Academy.
