WSAVA’s new Student Ambassadors get to work

Collaborating with IVSA to develop the veterinary leaders of the future!

Six members of our affiliate member IVSA have recently started work as Student Ambassadors to WSAVA Clinical Committees. In addition to supporting their own development, their contribution will enable the Committees to be more student-focused and to strengthen WSAVA engagement with the next generation of veterinarians around the world.

Following a selection process, the successful Student Ambassadors are:

  • Agnieszka Dolnicka, Poland, Oncology Working Group
  • Adında Rana, Indonesia, Animal Wellness and Welfare Committee
  • Shubham Khutwad, India, Hereditary Disease Committee
  • Luiza Pierucci, Brazil, Reproduction Control Committee
  • Soraia Filipa Rodrigues, Portugal, Global Nutrition Committee
  • Nadya W, Indonesia, One Health Committe

Oncology is a personal passion. I spend a huge amount of my free time in oncological clinics and I organize oncological meetings for IVSA Wrocław. Cancer treatment is a huge field with great prospects for new approaches and cures.

“Cultural and social differences tend to affect the way we treat our patients, therefore comparing your experiences with veterinarians from different parts of the world can give you lots of ideas as to how to progress in your practice. As a student, I hope I will see and understand these differences and will be able to explain them to my peers.”

My interest in One Health stems from my concern for the on-going pandemic and zoonotic disease myths that circulate to the public.

“I want to be able to set the facts straight and achieve better global health. I believe that by working with the One Health Committee I will learn approaches as to how to properly educate colleagues and handle a zoonotic case in a companion animal. I will also get to work with distinguished veterinary experts.”

I heard about the WSAVA opportunity from IVSA and immediately applied because I know I can have a much broader impact by joining the WSAVA. The Animal Wellness and Welfare Committee’s goals align with mine, which are to improve and raise awareness of animal welfare, particularly for small animals. I am looking forward to collaborating with the amazing veterinarians on this Committee, learning strategies for tackling animal welfare issues and being an example for others to follow.”

“I have always wanted to experience an international approach to veterinary medicine. In college our experience is more restricted to the country we are in and there are very few opportunities to know how things are done in other places. Also, I think the work the Committee does is very important, because not every country has guidelines and informative resources to help veterinarians do a better job and improve the quality of the services they provide.

I was particularly interested in the Reproduction Control Committee because solutions to dog and cat overpopulation have intrigued me since I got into vet school. One of the most feasible solutions is Spay/Neuter campaigns. However, they need to be done in a safe and painless way, so I was interested in being close to the specialists writing the guidelines on this topic.”
