The WSAVA Academy is an online learning platform for our members and contains a host of educational resources, often in a range of languages, to support their professional development.  Recent additions include:

  • A Clinical Decision-making course that develops problem-based clinical reasoning skills that help clinicians turn a terrifying case into a manageable one. It includes easy-to-remember rules that can be applied to most clinical signs for which small companion animals are seen, reducing the need to remember long lists of differentials and helps avoid the trap of jumping prematurely on a perceived obvious diagnosis. Presented by two internationally-renowned clinicians and educators at the Royal Veterinary College, London, it is an invaluable resource for every level of learner.
  • A four-module Introduction to Veterinary Dentistry from the WSAVA Global Dental Committee. The modules present the most common oral pathologies in the dog and cat, including periodontal disease, fractured teeth, tooth resorption, malocclusions and cancer. The course helps clinicians to be prepared to diagnose most oral conditions. Diagnostic and treatment recommendations are also presented.
  • A series of webinars on Pain Management for vet techs and veterinary nurses. They have been prepared by veterinary nurse Sandra Félix.  Sandra was the winner of a recent Global Pain Council (GPC) Teach the Teacher competition for vet techs/nurses and has spent time studying with past GPC Chair Dr Duncan Lascelles at North Carolina State University and the Comparative Pain Research and Education Centre and Integrated Pain Management Service in the USA.  She has shared her new knowledge in a series of three webinar for vet techs and nurses.  They cover:
    • The physiology and pathophysiology of pain
    • The recognition and assessment of acute pain
    • The recognition and assessment of chronic pain.
