Happy World Veterinary Day from President Ellen van Nierop

Today it’s World Veterinary Day and we want to recognize the tireless dedication and work of our members.

Dear WSAVA Community Veterinarians,

Today it’s World Veterinary Day and we want to recognize the tireless dedication and work of our members.

Small animal veterinarians are the backbone of our communities, providing essential medical care to our pets. Multiple studies have demonstrated the powerful relationship between humans and their companion animals and the positive impact of these relationships on human health and wellbeing. This means that veterinarians, highly skilled and exceptional professionals, play a key role in maintaining not just the health and happiness of companion animals, but also of people and communities all around the world. You are supporting One Health and the happiness of our planet! Thank you!

Most veterinarians chose their profession because they love animals and want to help them as much as possible. Few of us realize the amount of work that goes beyond the actual medicine, from the necessary legal administration to dealing with distressed owners, and to balancing our own ideas of what should be done vs. what can realistically be done in every case. All this can lead to stress levels rising and burnout if support is not sought or given. We must not stand by when our colleagues suffer.

At WSAVA, together with our members, we advocate for the veterinary profession, to increase understanding of our work, and to build more sustainable and rewarding career paths for all veterinary professionals. Let’s keep on working together to highlight our amazing profession!

Happy World Veterinary Day!

Warm regards,

Ellen van Nierop
