Meet new WSAVA Executive Board Member Dr Jerzy Gawor

A specialist in veterinary dentistry from Poland
h4

Could you introduce yourself to WSAVA members?

I am a specialist in veterinary dentistry. In addition to my clinical work, I enjoy teaching and research.

Could you briefly summarize your career?

Following graduation, I began my career as a small animal veterinary surgeon with particular interest in dentistry. I later established my own practice in Krakow with a business partner. Once the business was stable, I began studying with the European Veterinary Dental Society. I became a Fellow of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry in 2009, an alternative pathway to the American Veterinary Dental College and this resulted in my achievement of Diplomate status in 2015.

What started your passion for veterinary dentistry?

I was very aware of how poor the care was that many dental patients were receiving.  At the same time, numbers of dental patients were increasing rapidly.

You’ve been involved with veterinary associations – PSAVA, FECAVA and WSAVA – for many years.  Why do you think their work is important and what do you enjoy about it?

Like many in our community, I strongly believe that the veterinary profession is built on team work. Working in team is beneficial for the profession and is essential for our patients. Associations provide a great environment for developing team spirit and this enables them to make a powerful impact on the profession.

What are you most looking forward to in your role as a member of the Executive Board?

Joining the WSAVA Executive Board is the culmination of my 30 years’ continuous involvement in veterinary associations – an involvement that, I believe has benefitted our patients – particularly our dental patients. My profession is very important to me and I have gained so much from it so I was keen to contribute something in return, in addition to the CE activities I already undertake.

Tell us something about you that may surprise us:

I am passionate about volleyball.  I have played the game for more than 15 years. These days, I’m also a keen reader and am interested in antique art.
