WSAVA President Dr Ellen van Nierop, Past President Siraya Chunekamrai and Executive Director Rich Casey attended the 90th Annual General Session of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) from May 21-23 in Paris to drive forward our campaign for global equity of access to veterinary medicines and the effective stewardship of antimicrobials. They were in the company of more than 1,000 delegates, including WOAH members, representatives from international and regional organisations, observer countries and territories, stakeholders and government ministers.

Ellen van Nierop says: “Advocating on behalf of our members on issues of vital importance is one of our key goals so we were delighted to have the opportunity to represent our members at such a prestigious international forum.  The changes we are campaigning for benefit not only veterinary professionals and companion animals, but will also offer significant benefits to human health and wellbeing. The support we received from our fellow delegates will undoubtedly strengthen our campaign.”

Siraya Chunekamrai adds: “During the meeting, we had very useful discussions with colleagues from the World Veterinary Association, Health for Animals, the International Veterinary Students’ Association and WOAH in order to advance our campaign and our wider goals.  We also made many new contacts and friends with whom we hope to build closer and mutually-beneficial relationships in the months ahead.”
