The WSAVA is working with HealthforAnimals to develop a set of global ‘Principles of Wellness’ for feline and canine health. The Principles outline the baseline practices that all veterinarians and pet owners should undertake to optimize feline and canine care. HealthforAnimals is the global animal health association, representing developers of veterinary pharmaceuticals, vaccines and other animal health products throughout the world.

The Principles of Wellness will cover subjects such as vaccinology, dermatology, parasitology, welfare, pain, nutrition, internal medicine and shelter medicine. They will offer science-based recommendations, based on the current literature, data and guidelines.

The development of the Principles is being led by an eight-person ‘Expert Group,’ which includes representatives from WSAVA Committees.  They are expected to be launched later in 2023.

“We are pleased to partner with WSAVA on this project and have a great Expert Group to drive development of the principles,” said Alex Rinkus, Director of Communications and Stakeholder Relations at HealthforAnimals. “The Expertise within this project will ensure that these Principles can offer a valuable baseline for pet care in markets around the world.”
