WSAVA One Care comes to Eastern Europe and Africa

Supporting the development of the companion animal veterinary professional globally

One Care is a WSAVA initiative to support veterinary development around the world. As a first step, member associations take part in a participatory workshop. During the workshop, they identify the key priorities for their association’s sustainable development plan, the delivery of which is then supported by the WSAVA.

During April and May, WSAVA President Siraya Chunekamrai and Vice President Ellen van Nierop, held two One Care workshops, both of which were well-received and resulted in inspiring action plans.

WSAVA members from Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia attended the first workshop, in Ljubljana, Slovenia, on May 4. Dr Chunekamrai says: “It was great to learn that veterinarians in this region share common goals and ideas to achieve their dreams and we look forward working with them to deliver their plan. I’d also like to thank Dr Lea Kreszinger, WSAVA Regional CE Coordinator, for organizing such a great workshop!”

The second workshop took place in Tunisia during the 10th African and Euro-Arab Veterinary Association Congresses held by WSAVA member association The Union Générale des Médecins Vétérinaires de Tunisia (UGMVT) on May 6-7.

WSAVA members from Burundi, Chad, Morocco and Tunisia were among those attending. Dr Chunekamrai and Dr van Nierop were joined by WSAVA Board Director Dr Felisbina Queiroga with Oncology Working Group Committee Chair Dr Martin Soberano to facilitate translation.

Dr Chunekamrai says: “It was great to meet so many African veterinarians at this workshop and to see their enthusiasm to strengthen the profession across the continent.  We look forward to helping them achieve this goal.”
