WSAVA One Health Committee to Expand Access to Zoonoses Guidelines

‘What can I catch from my pet?’ is a common question worldwide

Excellent guidelines exist on how to prevent or manage diseases shared between animals and man – zoonoses – the for Disease Control and Prevention’s Healthy Pets, Healthy People website and the American Association of Feline Practitioners (WSAVA-endorsed) Zoonoses Guidelines are examples.

However, there are many differences in prevalence rates for different infectious disease agents around the world and it is not always easy for physicians or veterinarians to find information specific to different regions.

The OHC plans to make it easier to access information about small companion animal (including exotics) zoonotic agents and regional influences by launching a new set of WSAVA Global Guidelines in this subject area later in 2021.

The WSAVA Zoonoses Guidelines for Companion Animals will include an overview of general guidelines for agents present in the majority of the world, together with a series of documents ribing agents specific to particular regions.

Work on the Zoonoses Guidelines is well underway so stay tuned for information on their launch!
